Island Institute Film Screening

Tasting Room Event
Date/Time: October 2nd, 2025 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Location: Maine Beer Company

Join us in hosting the Island Institute for a free screening of Aquaculture for People and Planet!

Attendees will enjoy oysters, pizza, and beer, and discover how Maine's shellfish and seaweed industries are leading the way in climate-friendly food production. Aquaculture for People and Planet, the latest short film in our Climate of Change series, explores how the Island Institute is helping Maine's seafood businesses lower their carbon footprint, boost resilience, and build a thriving, sustainable seafood economy.

After the screening, take part in a Q&A with Island Institute staff and local aquaculturists Willy Leathers, owner of Maine Ocean Farms, and Matt Moretti, owner of Bangs Island Mussels and star of the film. This panel discussion will dive into the vast potential of low-emission seafood, Maine's oppurtunity to lead in this growing industry, and the innovative ways sea farmers are cutting their carbon footprint while increasing their bottom line.

For over a decade, Climate of Change has spotlighted solutions to the most pressing challenges facing Maine's coast—from sea level rise and clean energy to ocean acidification and warming water. Explore the full film series on the Island Institute's website.
